🧐 How to choose a side hustle (with examples)

In the last issue, I taught you how to make more money in your day job. This is low hanging fruit and should be the starting point for most.

But if you don’t have a side hustle yet … it has the potential to change your life. Even if it never turns into your main hustle, it can do two really cool things for you:

1) give you breathing room financially – widening the Expense-to-Income Gap so you can invest more money and get your money working FOR you. 💪🏼

2) create confidence and a greater sense of freedom. 🔐

There's something magical about creating value "in the real world" compared to getting a paycheck from a W2 job. 

I've said it before and I'll say it again: owning the source of your cashflows just hits different. It builds skills and BELIEF that you can control your own destiny … and not remain solely dependent on a single employer.

🇺🇸 The awesome thing about living in America: there's opportunity everywhere.

💡If you want to increase your income, you can.

Don’t do shady stuff like this, but it does show the possibilities when you have the internet and a creative idea.

Exhibit B (✅)

^This is one of my favorite kinds of side hustles: B2B on a monthly retainer.

I love it because it’s recurring revenue + it’s selling value vs. hours.

My favorite part here is that purpose is driving him to action.

💡 It's not about materialism. It's about freedom and optionality – blessing your family and others. 🙌🏼

IF you have super high-value skills, by all means, use them. But don’t spin your wheels … get started making money on the side, and don’t be afraid to KEEP IT SIMPLE. 👌🏼

I’m actually a huge fan of basic service-based businesses, like:

• landscaping 🌿

• window cleaning 🪟

• pressure spraying 💦

Your startup costs are very low, complexity is very low … and your earning potential can actually be fairly strong if you’re savvy and take care of customers well.

Plus, you can scale in the future (if you decide) by hiring the right people. I know white collar junior executive-types who have landscaping side hustles.

Here are the 3 filters I use to assess a potential side hustle.

1) How Asynchronous / Flexible is it?

How easy will this be to fit around my day job? 🤨

2) How Future Aligned is it?

To what extent will this help me build skills or get exposure to the kind of stuff I want to be doing more of in the future? 🤨

3) How much Earning Potential is there?

Is the juice really going to be worth the squeeze? 🤨

When you get this dialed in right, you just might have yourself the holy grail of the HYSH – High Yield Side Hustle. 💪🏼

Bottom line: if you want to make more money, YOU ABSOLUTELY CAN.

Don’t get bogged down. I have a friend who picks up a couple shifts a week at a fancy restaurant and earns $400-500 per month.

Be strategic about what side hustle makes the most sense for you, but give yourself a timeline to get started making money on the side … even if it’s basic.
